KUCHING: The Sarawak government continues to demonstrate its high commitment to transparent and integrity-based governance with the appointment of three individuals to key positions in the Sarawak Ombudsman structure.
The appointments saw Alexander Unya Ambon appointed as Deputy Chief Ombudsman, effective from 1 July 2025.
Also appointed were Albert Tang Yew Liong and Toieyah Tioh, respectively as Ombudsman, effective from 22 and 23 June 2025.
The swearing-in ceremony for the three positions took place on Monday, at 10am at the Kuching High Court, before the Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak, Datuk Azizah Nawawi.
Also present to witness the historic ceremony was the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya.
This appointment is made in accordance with Section 7 of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023, which provides for the obligation for all individuals appointed to take an oath before officially performing their duties.
This step is to strengthen the role of the Ombudsman institution in enhancing integrity, transparency and accountability in the administration of the Sarawak state government, in line with the aspiration towards best governance.
Sarawak also made history by becoming the first state in Malaysia to enact and pass legislation relating to the Ombudsman system, through the approval of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023 on 20 November 2023 by the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly.
