KUCHING: Dato Sri Abdul Ghafur Shariff took the oath of office as the Sarawak Ombudsman before the High Court Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, the Honourable Dato Dr Alwi Abd Wahab on Monday.
The swearing-in ceremony was also witnessed by the Director of the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNIONS) and the Chief Administrator of the Sarawak Ombudsman, Wan Mohammad Wan Drahman.
The ceremony, held at the Kuching High Court, marks another significant milestone in the Sarawak Government's efforts to strengthen administrative oversight mechanisms.
Sarawak made history as the first state in Malaysia to implement the Ombudsman law after the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) passed the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance on November 20 last year.
This ordinance is a commitment by the Sarawak Government to empower the public service system to ensure good governance and strengthen public confidence in the capacity of the government administrative machinery.
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted in accordance with the provisions of Section 7 of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023.
